Today was the highly anticipated
photoshoot for my family's cookbook. My entire life I have been obsessed with food, growing up next door to my grandmother who was a caterer probably played a role in that. From then on, I have loved watching cooking shows and drooling over as many cookbooks as I could get my hands on. So why not make my own?
There was no real way to make the masterpiece I envisioned until my friend
Kasi, who is an amazing photographer (and happens to be just as obsessed with food and food photography as I am) suggested we get the ball rolling.
After contacting all of my family
members, as well as my husband's, I was able to quickly assemble about 50 tried and true, delicious southern classics. I decided what food we should shoot, and began dividing up the menu to family members so we could
collaboratively get this thing together.
After lots of
preparation, collecting napkins, tablecloths and even a trip to the antique store for some gorgeous plates, we were ready to shoot. With my time line in hand, sketched out thumbnails of my vision for each food and the stored memory of the thousands of
portraits of delicious food I've admired over the years, I was ready to style my own family recipes.
The light today was perfect, and
Kasi's eye was as always
phenomenal. I'll be sure to post some photos as soon as I can. Until then check out her website
